Small decisions - big consequences

Small decisions - big consequences

Think back to your most recent career success.   I’ll guarantee that it had something to do with what seemed like a relatively small detailed decision that you made.

Perhaps you stood out from the crowd, you didn’t follow what everyone else was doing, you asked a question in a meeting or at a conference, you complimented a colleague on an innovative contribution.

It is inevitably the little things that make the big difference. Stand out from the crowd; be different - here are four tips from my own career for you.

1.  Don't follow the beaten path: join a small organisation, but one where your contribution is unique.
2.  Become a big fish in a small pond: go and work in another country for five years.
3.  Find a mentor and a mastermind group: consult them regularly.
4.  Never listen to people who say, "I wouldn't do that if I were you!"
